La Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana informa que la transferencia de la Policía Federal a la Guardia Nacional no contempla ofrecer en adopción ni sacrificar a ningún ejemplar de la Dirección General de la Unidad Canina, adscrita a la División de Fuerzas Federales, ya que su valioso apoyo constituye un gran aporte a la seguridad de los mexicanos.
La construcción de la paz y seguridad requiere la suma de voluntades, y para ello es necesario hacer un solo frente y caminar juntos hacia un mismo objetivo, y en este caso la Unidad Canina ha contribuido en importantes aseguramientos y acciones en la prevención de delitos, además de auxiliar a la población en caso de desastres.
Se cuenta con ejemplares caninos entrenados con estándares internacionales para la detección de narcóticos, papel moneda, armas de fuego, explosivos, búsqueda y rescate, así como de restos humanos.
Cabe señalar que es de los pocos organismos a nivel mundial que cuenta con una certificación por parte de la Real Policía Montada de Canadá para la detección de fentanilo.
La Policía Federal no sólo ha mostrado un compromiso durante la vida efectiva de los perros, ha sido de las instituciones pioneras en ofrecer una jubilación y reconocimiento para los canes que han servido al país.
